This isn't a role where you will be tucked away in a corner filing papers. You will be the go-to authority, reporting directly to the CEO and the Board. You are there to keep the business sharp, compliant, and ready to scale.

The Career Play

You are moving from a supporting role into a leadership position where you own the compliance function. You will be the one educating the team on regulations, interpreting complex rulings, and ensuring the company stays ahead of legal risks across its operations. It is a high-visibility role that combines legal research with the fast-paced agility of a cloud distributor. Plus, you'll be at the forefront of tech, managing an AI agent to help streamline your workflow.

What You Will Be Doing

Owning the Program: You will implement and manage an effective legal compliance program and review company policies to stay ahead of risks.
Due Diligence: You will lead the due diligence process for new customers, which includes deep-dive research and maintaining meticulous electronic records.
Drafting & Analysis: You will compile, proofread, and revise legal documents and reports, collaborating with external legal counsel when things get technical.
Contract Management: You will manage standard and non-standard contracts, using electronic tools to send agreements for signature based on Google pricing models.
Action Planning: When audits happen or violations occur, you will be the one creating and managing the action plans to fix them.

What You Need to Bring

We need a sharp, analytical mind that does not buckle when the pressure is on.

Experience: You need at least 3 years of legal experience.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, or Business Management is the baseline here.
Skills: You must be highly organised and a strong communicator. We need someone who can handle conflict and work well with clients without breaking a sweat.
Growth Mindset: Appropriate training courses for the role will be identified and provided to help you level up.

Badger & Bird Straight Talk

This is a high-accountability role with a salary of up to R1M per annum for the right person. You are reporting to the top of the food chain, so your attention to detail has to be flawless. The role is fully remote, giving you back your commute time, though the team gets together once a month in Johannesburg or Cape Town for an informal catch-up. There is no travel required, but you will be busy. If you struggle with stress or prefer to wait for instructions rather than taking initiative, you will not enjoy this.
